Daughter of Jonathan Poppy and Mary Pallant.

 

Jemima was born in Great Yarmouth and baptised at St Nicholas Church.  Jemima’s fathers occupations included bookseller and Straw hat manufacturer.  Mary Pallant was from Hitcham Suffolk, her father John Pallant was a farmer.

 

From Pigots 1830 Directory for Norfolk the Poppy family were living at Charlotte Street, Great Yarmouth, Jonathan a Straw Hat manufacturer.

WILL OF JONATHAN POPPY.

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Jonathan Poppy of Great Yarmouth in the County of Norfolk Hat manufacturer  First I nominate my son John Pallant Poppy Executor of this my Will and request him to pay my funeral expenses out of the sum of eight pounds payable at my death for that purpose by the Friendly Society of which I am a Member and if that sum shall be more than sufficient for that purpose then I give the residue thereof to my Wife And I also give and bequeath unto my said wife my Bed Bedstead and other Utensils and things for her own absolute Use  And as to the shares of certain sums of money to which as the legal representative of my late Daughter Elizabeth I am entitled on reversion or expectancy upon the deaths of Sarah Crowfoot and Elizabeth Watson respectively And as to all other my property whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore specifically bequeathed after payment thereout of my just debts and testamentary expenses I give and bequeath unto and equally to be divided between my said wife and my Children Mary the wife of Stephen Todd, Hannah the wife of William Gardiner, Eliza Poppy, Jemima Poppy, John Pallant Poppy and Thomas Poppy to be payable and paid when and as the same shall be received into possession but I declare that in case my said wife or any or either of my said Children shall depart this life before any part of my said expectant property shall become payable unmarried And as to my children without lawful issue than I declare that the share or shares of such persons so dying shall belong to and be payable equally to and between such of them my said Wife and Children as shall be living at the time the same respective monies shall become divisible and to the children of such of them as may be then dead the children to take his her or their Patents share only And I revoke all Wills made by me at any time heretofore In Witness whereof unto this my last Will and Testament I the said Jonathan Poppy have set my hand and seal the third day of November one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven

 Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Jonathan Poppy the Testator  

as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses – George Francis – Mary Ann Francis.

 

 

This Will was proved at Great Yarmouth on the thirty first day of October 1843 before the Revd Henry William Clarke clerk Surrogate duly appointed of the Worshipful William Yonge Clerk A.M  Official Principal of the Episcopal Consistorial  Court of Norwich lawfully constituted and was approved   and admon of all and singular the goods   of the within names Jonathan Poppy the Testator dec. was on the fourth day of November following duly granted to John Pallant Poppy his Son the sole Executor within named he being being duly sworn

Testator died 27th January 1838/ Probate granted 4th Nov 1843
