The Seamark
family of Finedon Northamptonshire.
Finedon has an elevated
position in my quest purely as this is where the wife of Matthew
Semark moves to after Matthew died in 1763 [Matthew being the start of my
tree].
Elizabeth Gray formerly
Semark nee Brittain married John Gray in 1773 in Poddington, Bedfordshire. From
the Banns of both Poddington and Finedon
John Gray was living in Finedon at this point in time.
1799 Death of Elizabeth Gray [Elizabeth
Seamark nee Brittain] aged 84; records show John Gray was a tailor. This confirms the guess at the age of
Matthew start of the Stagsden
Tree ie pre 1715 based on that his first wife wife Mary Farrel was born
circa 1711 and Elizabeth was born circa 1715. Was Matthew from Old.
In 1807 in Finedon William
Seamark appears no obvious relationship to the Stagsden family, and the local
Finedon church record / historian does not know of William’s parentage. As a
twist William moves to Bedford, and thus his family is the “Finedon” or “Other”
Bedford Seamark family. William’s line
moves from Bedford to London.
A summary of the Finedon
family follows:
1. William SEAMARK was
born about 1807/8 in Finedon, Northamptonshire. He was a Shoe-manufacturer.
William moved from Finedon to Bedford between 1837 and 1839, settling in
the center of the town in Greyfriars Walk. The dates are based on the birth of
his children, William and members of the family then moved to Kensington,
London, in 1881 William was living with Butlin at 4 Great Chapel Street,
London.
